Our School Councils
We have two school councils - one at Hamsterley Primary School and one at the Upper Dales Schools. Our school councils are an elected formal group of pupils who act as representatives of their classmates. They meet regularly throughout each term to discuss school issues and contribute to our 'pupil voice'.
Our school councils help to make decisions about how our schools are run and take on projects that support the children’s learning and development (such as organising charity events, representing the school at outside events or ensuring the school is environmentally friendly).
Our school councils do a number of things:
- They meet with a teacher present to discuss and resolve any problems/issues that may have arisen. These could include school lunches, behaviour or ideas for improving playtimes.
- They decide on a number of fundraising events and decide on different ways we can raise money for charity.
- Members of the school council are responsible for carrying out the ideas that have been agreed upon, such as planning discos, writing newspaper articles, or meeting with catering staff.
